DIVE DESTINATION GUIDE

Most people think Ireland is more about pubs, greenery, and scenery, but there are over 60 dive clubs around the country, and hundreds of popular dive sites. Jacques Cousteau is often quoted -- "Some of the best diving in the world is at the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Brandon Mountains in a landscape of exceptional beauty."

Wreck divers could spend years diving Ireland and not even see a smidge of all the wrecks. Ireland's National Monuments Service (NMS) database lists over 18,000 wrecks in Ireland. Many of them are popular with scuba divers. Not just ships either, as the wrecks also include nearly 200 submarines, a dozen airplanes, lifeboats, and a wide range of vessels sunk in Ireland's inland lakes and waterways. The oldest listing in the database is a logboat that is over 11,000 years old.
